The Early Life of Arshamae

A Childhood Rooted in Resilience

She  was born in Calamba, Misamis Occidental, as the youngest of three children. When her parents separated, she was just three months old. Her paternal grandparents stepped in to raise her, providing love and stability in a challenging environment.

Her grandmother, a hardworking farmer, was her pillar of strength. Her childhood was marked by both love and fear. She often cried when left alone, fearing for her grandmother’s safety in the dangerous kaingin fields. Despite this, her days were filled with moments of joy as they gathered eggs, fruits, and vegetables together.

Emerging Talents in School

Her love for performing became evident during her school years. She excelled in dancing, singing, and sports, and by sixth grade, she was choreographing for her cousins’ contests. These experiences gave her confidence, even as financial struggles loomed ahead.

Challenges in Education and Family Struggles

The Road to College

Her college journey was anything but smooth. After starting a Bachelor of Science in Education program, she shifted to Tourism due to financial difficulties. Her father’s bankruptcy left her unable to pay fees, and her mother refused to assist, citing personal grievances.

A Heartbreaking Loss

During her third year of college, tragedy struck when her beloved grandmother passed away. Her final words encouraged Arshamae to persevere, avoid early motherhood, and finish her studies. Despite the pain, these words became a guiding light.

Enduring Hardship

Life in Korea was challenging. Her husband’s  substance abuse made her feel trapped. At her lowest point, she contemplated suicide but found renewed strength through dreams of her grandparents. Their memory became a source of courage.
